THE BLIND FAITH BIRTHDAY BASH GUILD EVENT
Due to only 2 guild members (
Squire Gizmoz and
Squire Zoeyoland) showing up to compete in the first guild event at 1pm server time, we decided there weren't enough present to make a decent guild event. The first guild event was cancelled after waiting 15 minutes for others to arrive, and both
Gizmoz and
Zoeyoland were awarded a token
10g for showing up.
The second guild event at 8pm server time had a better turnout.
Knight Fluorine,
Squire Gizmoz,
Senior Squire Knee,
Squire Luncan,
Senior Squire Spod, and
Squire Zoeyoland arrived to compete (
Fluorine made it just in time).
Councilor Cathne,
Senior Knight Gardeen (as
Kapa),
Knight Shehairia,
Councilor Skyrunner, and
High Councilor Striegyr coordinated the event. The competitors were told to make new dwarf characters and wait with
Cathne at the starting point in Coldridge Valley, Dun Morogh.
Fluorine chose a hunter named
Hurff,
Gizmoz chose a paladin named
Runforestrun,
Knee chose a priest named
Borntolose,
Luncan chose a priest named
Goluncango,
Spod chose a warrior named
Spudss, and
Zoeyoland chose a rogue named
Zoeo. The competitors had minimal information on what the event would consist of, just a general idea of a "gnome run" but little else. Once all were rounded up and accounted for, the competitors were told the rules to the event. Very simply, they could not log out and into another character or they would be disqualified, and they must travel under their own power...no portals, summons, or outside intervention allowed. Only what they themselves were capable of. The Deeprun Tram, ships, flight paths, even their hearthstones were allowed to be used.
The racers were then told to "check their mail" and the race was on.
Cathne and
Skyrunner ran escort along with the racers. In the racers' mailboxes were letters sent by
Striegyr giving them their first task in the game. The racers ran to Kharanos, Dun Morogh, and received their quest letters, stating:
Loot a [Melted Candle] from a fallen foe,
show it to Shehairia in a forest we all know,
along with a copy of this letter too,
she'll show you then the next quest to do.The racers were instructed to save a copy of the letters in their bags, as they would be necessary in the race. The racers headed to the Northshire Valley area of Elwynn Forest and killed various kobolds there that dropped the required candles. They then had to search for
Shehairia located somewhere within the zone. After the racers spent quite a lot of time scouring nearly the entire expanse of Elwynn Forest, they finally found
Shehairia located within Northshire Abbey in the human starting area. Showing her their candles and letters, they received a new letter containing their next task in addition to
2s. The letters read:
Here's some cash, now off you fly,
[Simple Wildflowers] you need to buy,
Kapa's up in a tree where elves like to rest,
show him the flowers and the letter and you'll get the next quest. The money given to them was just enough to cover the cost of the flowers. After all racers passed
Shehairia, she joined the group as an additional escort.
The racers headed for the Fragrant Flowers shop in the canals of Stormwind City and purchased the required flowers from vendors there. Then it was off to Teldrassil to seek out
Kapa. He was found in the night elf starting area of Aldrassil, Teldrassil, hiding in typical night elf druid fashion. Once the racers showed him the flowers, they were told to "Seek out
Melithar Staghelm here in Aldrassil and do what he asks of you, then return to me and show me your quest reward item." Speaking with the person, located in the immediate vicinity, started them on the quest chain
"The Woodland Protector". The racers had to drop from the raid party, complete the quest chain, then rejoin the raid party and show their choice of quest reward items (either the
[Canopy Leggings],
[Tracking Boots], or
[Viny Gloves]) to
Kapa. The racers were given their final letter and
10s. The last letter read:
Congratulations...but you're not yet done,
now it's time for a nice long run,
here's some spending money for you too,
use it to help you make it through,
seek out Striegyr across the sea,
in the jungle, show him these letters three,
even though you may finish the run,
the Blind Faith Birthday Bash still isn't done! The money given to them was available for the racers to use however they saw fit within the rules. They could buy better armor and weapons, repair their equipment, use flight paths, train in class skills, buy items such as potions from vendors or the auction house...whatever they chose to use it for. Figuring out that Striegyr was located somewhere within Stranglethorn Vale, all the racers used their hearthstones to return to Coldridge Valley, Dun Morogh, and began the final leg of the race. Once all racers passed
Kapa, he proceeded to the finish line to await the racers.
Skyrunner stayed behind in Aldrassil to help a fellow player in need.
With much difficulty, death and ressing, and some wrong guesses as to the location of the finish line (namely Booty Bay), the racers finally started to arrive at Gurubashi Arena, Stranglethorn Vale, where
Striegyr was waiting.
Cathne and
Shehairia began helping racers who were having an extremely difficult time navigating the harsh landscape and avoiding the hostile creatures in Duskwood and Stranglethorn Vale.
First to arrive at the finish line and show all 3 letters to
Striegyr was
Runforestrun (
Gizmoz), winning first prize of
100g and a
[Heart Candy]. Second to arrive was
Spudss (
Spod), winning second prize of
50g. Due to there only being 6 competitors, only two "place" prizes were awarded, but all non-placing racers who finished successfully received
10g.
Hurff (
Fluorine) arrived next, then
Borntolose (
Knee).
Zoeo (
Zoeyoland) and
Goluncango (
Luncan) were summoned to the arena with the warlock skills of
Nekradamos (
Skyrunner), who arrived to help the racers finish. The racers were told to remain at the finish line and not enter the arena pit, as the event was not quite over yet. The race itself had taken almost 3 hours to complete.
It was announced only then that the final event was a single-elimination duelling tournament with their current characters (ranging levels 3 to 4). The prize for the winner of duelling tournament was none other than the
[Orb of Deception]. They were allowed to duel with whatever they possessed in whatever state they were in. No one was allowed to leave to repair or buy any supplies with their accumulated money, as they had opportunity to use it on the way. As there were only 6 competitors, 2 of the competitors would receive "byes" in the tournament, free matches in the quarter-finals. The tournament bracket was randomly seeded and the duels were underway. The tournament bracket and results are shown here:

In the process of the final match between
Runforestrun (
Gizmoz) and
Goluncango (
Luncan), which took a seemingly unprecedented amount of time, some difficulty occurred as the duel had moved into the arena pit. In addition to other non-guild onlookers (who watched the neverending final match with much amusement and had been asked not to interfere), former guild member
Mtkdarkomen had arrived during the match and, after watching for a time, suddenly struck out and killed
Runforestrun, resulting in
Goluncango winning the duel. Due to the duel not being finished properly, the Nobles present discussed the events that had occurred and decided that, rather than just continuing with another duel that would last even longer, the two finalists would decide whether they wanted to duel it out or just have a best 2 out of 3 /roll for the prize. They mutually decided to roll for the prize.
Luncan won both the first and second rolls, winning the orb.
Luncan chose to relinquish his prize to the guild bank, leaving it up to the Guild Council to decide how it should be dealt with. The entire event, both race and tournament, took approximately 4 hours.
With the guild event finally over, some guild members logged out for much-needed sleep, some went off to quest elsewhere, and some stayed to duel and fight in and out of the arena pit.
As 2 guild events had been planned and only 1 had actually occurred,
Cathne and Striegyr decided to schedule another guild event for the next day, Sunday, at 6pm server time. All guild members are, again, welcome to compete. To be fair to the guild members and make the prizes more available to everyone, if they compete,
Luncan will not be able to win the duelling tournament prize and
Gizmoz will not be able to win the race first place prize (though he would be able to win second or third place prizes if they are awarded).
UPDATEDue to only 2 guild members (
Knee and
Luncan) showing up for the Sunday guild event, the event was cancelled and the 2 guild members awarded
10g each for showing up to compete.
Congratulations to our event winners and to all guild members who arrived, competed, and stuck it out in good sportsmanship! In honor of Cathne's and Striegyr's birthdays this coming weekend, we will be having Guild Events on Saturday the 1st of September for all guildies willing to attend. Times will be announced this week.
Conceived in the (sadistic) mind of Striegyr, these 2 "gnome runs" will be to DIE for! So come and join us and take your shot at the grand prize (hint hint, TRIPLE DIGIT GOLD). Party afterward, "Blind Faith/WoW style".
If you've ever done a Blind Faith Guild Event before, you know this will be a challenge and well worth the effort!
